Butterflies are my favorite symbol of the resurrection, because their life cycle graphically describes the transformation we will go through when Jesus returns and we join him in our resurrected bodies. We die, our bodies decay; in the resurrection we receive new bodies -- our own, but better. In these bodies we are everything we were meant to be, no longer tied down and held back by sin.
In this "lite" version of "We shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye" the cross is cut from gold silk dupioni and the butterfly is cut from cotton metallic prints. Both are finished with satin thread around the edges. The embellishments, (the lines of imagined butterfly flight patterns) are hand drawn and manually machine stitched in matching satin thread.
