The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:9-13
As a child, I knew nothing of Jesus Christ until I was 10 years old. At that point my family started going to church. It was a small country church in southern Missouri, where folks were not equipped for a family with complete Bible illiteracy. Although I recognized by the age of 11 that God had a grasp on my life, I would not come to understand the amazing love story that runs seamlessly throughout the Bible until I was in my thirties. Later, when I taught children’s Sunday school, I was challenged to find ways to teach this story, from Creation and Fall to Incarnation and Redemption, in a way that children could comprehend and remember.
This stole is born of that desire to communicate the story of God’s faithful love in and for the world. Designed reminiscent of stained glass windows in cathedrals, this teaching stole is ideal for use in every season, and includes every liturgical color between panels.
