Silk Dupioni
Silk dupioni is made from unrefined silk fibers from the cocoons of silk worms. When the fiber is woven to make cloth the unrefined fibers create slubs, or an unevenness in the texture. I love working with dupioni for its crisp hand and luxurious colors and sheen. The clergy stoles below are made entirely from silk, except for the backing and the thread.
Stoles made from silk dupioni may be dry cleaned or hand washed, line dried.
A note about white silk:
Because the silk fibers are unrefined, the yarn will include variations in color (sometimes quite dark) throughout the fabric. This is considered part of the unique beauty of the fabric. I will often remove the darkest strands if it will be a distraction. This is part of the additional cost of the white silk. I also deep clean the studio before starting white silk stoles because even a small piece of dark thread or fuzz will show through if it gets trapped inside.
