"I will make you fishers of people" from Matthew 4:19. Ordinary Time is the season of growth. As we grow spiritually, growing the church with new believers flows naturally from our growing faith. The fish symbol was used by the early church to indicate a house where believers met. They had to keep their activity secret, but we do not!

This stole is from a collection of mitered stoles for the liturgical year featuring five stoles titled in Jesus's own words:

Advent: Blue/Purple - "My peace I give you" from John 14:27. Jesus's incarnation made peace with God possible. This stole features a white dove, also available in gold.

Christmas, Easter, and other White Sundays: Cream - "I came that they may have life" from John 10:10. This reminds us that Jesus's work of redemption turned a symbol of brutality into a thing of beauty, like the fancy gold cross on the ends.

Ordinary Time: Green - "I will make you fishers of people" from Matthew 4:19. Ordinary Time is the season of growth. As we grow spiritually, growing the church with new believers flows naturally from our growing faith.

Lent: Purple - "Father, forgive them" from Luke 23:34. The cross of suffering featured on this stole reminds us of the deep suffering Jesus experienced, yet forgave even those who tortured him.

Pentecost: Ruby red - "The Spirit will teach you" from John 14:26. The tongue of fire on this stole reminds us that on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit empowered the church for the ministry of the gospel before a word of the New Testament was written.
