In John 13:1-16, Jesus gave his disciples the example of leading by serving, by performing an act usually only done by servants, but never by someone of significance: taking off most of his clothing, he picked up a bowl, filled it with water, washed their feet, and dried them with the towel around his waist. Later Peter would remind the elders reading his letter (1 Peter 5:2-3) to serve as Jesus did, not lording their position over their flock, but showing them how to live by example.

This design is a picture of servant leadership, the bowl, pitcher and towel symbolizing the sacrifice of status necessary for Christ-like Christian ministry. A great way to celebrate Advent and Lent!
